You thought the biggest nightmare of the IU Football season happened last Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium against Ball State? If that is the case, then you were sorely mistaken!
If you haven’t been to Bloomington in a few months, then you have missed out on some wonderful construction at Walnut & the 45/46 Bypass. This is the main artery and intersection where most IU Football fans have to pass on their way into Memorial Stadium.
The picture below was taken on a lazy Thursday afternoon two weeks ago, as I was coming into Bloomington to visit my Dad.
I took this picture with my iPhone, so the quality isn’t perfect, and you can’t see all the traffic cones and cars sitting idle. But normally you drive straight up to this stoplight when coming into Bloomington. On this lazy Thursday, I had to wait over 5 minutes to get through this light.
In MANY previous podcasts, I have voiced my anger toward the inability of our local traffic cops to effectively handle traffic in/out of Memorial Stadium & Assembly Hall. Basically they are inept, and can’t handle the load when all roads are open. I can’t even fathom what it is going to be like this season. We could be looking at a situation like the Kentucky Speedway this NASCAR season, where people were in traffic for 5-6 hours and missed almost the first half of the race.
The only positive to us losing to Ball State, is that it might thin out the crowd a bit and help with traffic!
(If you are coming to a game this season and are NOT a season ticket holder, check out this form that was sent out to all season ticket holders. Showing you the new traffic patterns for this season. So now you know where you should be going, while you are staring at the red lights in front of you!)
