Generally speaking, Steak ‘n Shake is a useful place to go after an IU game. There are few disappointments that can’t be made better by a strawberry milkshake. Last night though, even Steak n Shake came up empty. After enjoying my meal, I got up to pay. While in line I encountered a supposedly well meaning bystander, who saw my IU shirt, and innocently asked, ” Oh IU-Ball State was tonight right?”
I bashfully nodded my head. The bystander then asked, did IU win? I shook my head no, and gave him the score.
The gentleman then said, “That’s too bad, I was hoping the new coach would turn it around, but at least you all didn’t get blew out.”(Yes, he said blew out.)
It was in this well meaning reassurance that I realized what IU football has come to. At least we kept the score close against a team that went 3-5 in the MAC last year.
