As reported in many outlets, Fred Glass was not giving up on the IU vs Kentucky game and gave it one last effort, which Kentucky and Calipari have rejected.
Kentucky is riding high on a Championship. But this idea that they are the only national player in college basketball and above everyone else, really needs to stop. Am I the only one who remembers the Billy Gillispie years? We are only 4 years removed from Kentucky being in the NIT. Maybe since Coach Calipari can’t look forward more than 2 years with a schedule, UK and it’s fans also can’t look back more than 2 years.
If you need any more proof than this, check out this post over at A Sea of Blue. I’ve had Glenn on the podcast for the past few years, and he is a very rational and knowledgable basketball and UK fan. Even he stated that the fault lies at the feet of Kentucky.
(Although as you scroll through the article, I’m getting a bit tired of UK fans acting like we performed a ritual murder after the Watford Shot. We stormed the court. It happens a good amount in college basketball. Just because it happened to your team, doesn’t mean you have to start making up stories about your players and fans being scared by our student section.
I’m very happy that Fred Glass made one last effort to salvage this series. But now, we have to move on. If we continue to try to geta deal done, it’s going to look very desperate on our part, like Trent’s agonizing voicemails in Swingers. Kentucky will always be a big game, and I really hope it can continue. But we also need to understand that as things progress with this team, we also don’t need that game as much. Let’s not forget, we have the #1 ranked team for next season. We are playing for a Final Four and a possible 6th Banner. Beating Kentucky along the way would be nice, but the Banner will hang just the same with or without a W over UK.
Enough of my thoughts. We wanted to hear from you. So we posed this question on Twitter and here were some of the responses:
@Mike_Petry @CrimsonCast It’s a shame for IU obviously, fascinating to me is UK’s side. To me it feels like 14-0 NFL team resting starters. It’s fine if you win championship. But entire season is hollow if you don’t win title. Pressure goes up even higher @tonyadragna @Hoosier43 @CrimsonCast I don’t think IU needs UK, but I think it’s the premiere game no matter what. Especially after all of this talk.
@Hoosier43 @CrimsonCast Yeah, but dropping the Hoosier Classic to pick up potentially Georgetown and UCLA isn’t shabby.
