Reaction to new #IUFB Helmets1

In case you missed it, and unless you were one of the 300 who viewed it at the time of my writing this I would assume you did, IU released video of new helmets for the 2013 Football season.  I’m going to assume that this isn’t a joke and that we might actually wear some of these in the upcoming season.  You can view the video below.

@FakeCoachWilson is going to be so disappointed, that there was not a version of our new helmets that had #HelmetStickers.

First off is the retro I helmet, which I really like.  Brings back memories of the Mallory era.  (Remember him, the coach that everyone wanted fired, and is now cheered every game during the “I’m a Hoosier” video package)

I’m also a fan of the helmet with the Indiana state flag on the side.  It looks pretty good and is awesome because we just go ahead and claim the whole state as ours.  Enjoy that Purdue!  😉

The one with the numbers on the side and the red stripe on the side isn’t a winner in my book. I know that we had a similar helmet in the late 50’s, but this feels like something a lot of other teams have.  If you are going to do this, at least go with the retro helmet from 59-61 with the IU logo on the top of the helmet.

So that brings us to the one that will get all the headlines, the silver candy striped helmet.  I’m not going to say it is the best looking helmet in the world, because I have contacts which help me see at 20/20 vision.  But it did make me laugh when I saw it, and I’m fine with trying anything once.  And if kids like it and some recruits are swayed by that, then I’m all for it.  (We know that crazy uniforms worked at Oregon)

I just wish they would have used the basketball colors, with cream and crimson and not the silver.  Hell, like I mentioned here a few years back, go all the way and go with these stripped pants and do the same with the field.

When my wife saw this video, she said that she hopes this is just a publicity stunt and that we aren’t going to wear these this year.  The thought did cross my mind, also.

So, what are your thoughts?  Do you think we will see any/all of these helmets in the fall?
