On the Hoops Report this week, we take a look back at the games of the week, looking primarily at the SMU and Lamar games, and try to decipher what we’ve seen so far out of the 2014-15 IU basketball team. We talk about the good things we saw in the SMU game (JBJ, Yogi) and the not-so-good things (defense, post play), and then talk about the implications of both. We also discuss what was a rather disappointing Lamar game, and explore the potential pitfalls of getting too optimistic about what we all have seen so far. We also have some fun debunking some statistical misconceptions about both the SMU game and the young season on the whole.
We answer some listener mail, including a question from Jared at Assembly Call about what it will take to get the defense looking age-appropriate, and a question from The Balcony Seats about lowered fan expectations. Plus, we warn against inflated offensive efficiency expectations, and give our prognosis for what a positive victory over Eastern Washington would look like on Monday.
